Thank you to everyone who attended the most recent installment of PCG’s Public Health Connect Conversation Series! In Leading the Charge: Dynamic Strategies to Enhance and Empower the CHW Workforce, PCG had the honor of hosting our esteemed speakers:
- Kendra Siler, PhD – CommHIT President and CEO
- Johanna Lopez – Director of the Office of Community Health Workers, Bureau of Community Health and Prevention, Massachusetts Department of Public Health
- Valerie Roxanne Edwards, LCSW – VRE Associates/Health Equity Project
Our speakers had an engaging conversation about the best ways to leverage Community Health Workers’ (CHWs) unique expertise to strengthen the care team workforce and promote community health. Throughout the conversation, the speakers discussed several ways organizations can best support CHWs in their work, including:
- Fostering organizational culture to help CHWs feel a part of a bigger whole;
- Providing CHWs formal education and training to prepare them to take on growth opportunities, like supervisory roles; and
- Training CHWs on cyber hygiene so they can teach the individuals they serve how to protect themselves when using health technology.
