Massachusetts districts are entering an important planning phase as the state moves toward a new graduation framework. During Public Consulting Group’s (PCG) recent webinar, Senior Consultants Ana Archibald and Lenworth Williamson shared strategies to help district leaders organize for implementation and position students for long-term success.

The proposed framework includes several key components, including foundational coursework, end-of-course assessments, postsecondary planning, and culminating experiences, along with embedded elements such as financial literacy, work-based learning, civic readiness, and AI and digital literacy.

Presenters encouraged districts to begin preparing for new graduation requirements now by focusing on three foundational questions:

• Why? How do the proposed graduation requirements align with your district’s vision, strategic priorities, and desired student outcomes?
• Who? Which leaders, educators, and community members should help guide readiness efforts?
• How? What governance structures, communication plans, and decision-making processes are needed to support successful implementation?
