New York State Public Health Corps and PCG Partnership

NAWB Forum 2020

Highlighting the Importance of Public-Private partnerships in public health.

In 2022, Public Consulting Group began working with the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) to develop a fellowship program aimed at strengthening their public health workforce by recruiting, hiring, training, and managing specialized public health staff to support local health departments (LHD). This work resulted in the development of a two-year fellowship program where PCG in partnership with the NYSDOH recruits public health graduates and provides them with work experience in public health. At the end of the two-year program each graduate has opportunities for permanent employment in public health at the state and local level.

In the program's first iteration, PCG worked with over 200 staff in 18 different NYS counties to provide critical project support. In June of 2024 the first group of fellows graduated with many of the graduates finding permanent positions in public health.

Currently, in the second iteration of this program, PCG is working with 200 fellows across 64 host organizations (local health departments, community-based organizations, and Department of Health offices) in remote, hybrid, and in-person fellowship positions across New York State. Fellows are providing critical boots-on-the ground public health support in interest areas, including but not limited to epidemiology, policy development, program and organizational management while engaging in professional leadership development opportunities. This second group of fellows will graduate in July of 2026.
